Description
APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) represents the time required for clot formation in citrated platelet-poor plasma after the addition of a suspension of synthetic phospholipids with microcrystalline silica and CaCl2. The analysis mimics the blood coagulation process via the intrinsic pathway, allowing the assessment of the functional integrity of coagulation factors involved in this process (XII, XI, IX, VIII, X, V, II). The diagnostic significance of this test lies in the detection, in combination with other studies, of pathological conditions such as hemophilia A and B, hepatic protein synthesis insufficiency, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, vitamin K deficiency, and antiphospholipid syndrome. It is also used to monitor heparin therapy.
