Description
The main protein component of blood plasma. It is synthesized in the liver. The main function of albumin is to maintain the colloid osmotic properties of blood, as well as to transport various compounds, including hormones, vitamins, and medicinal substances. In case of amino acid deficiency in the body, albumin begins to be consumed for their synthesis first. Diagnostically, the plasma albumin level serves as a marker of impaired synthetic processes in the body, associated with both pathology of internal organs, primarily the liver as the main organ where protein synthesis occurs, and insufficient dietary protein intake.
