Description
Penicillin G (or benzylpenicillin) belongs to the group of penicillins – a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Allergic reactions to penicillins develop due to the production of IgE to metabolites of the beta-lactam ring. Allergy to penicillin occurs quite often and manifests itself in the form of diseases such as urticaria, atopic dermatitis, Quincke's edema, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis. With systemic administration of this drug, anaphylactic shock is also possible. Very often, with sensitization to penicillin, cross-allergic reactions to semi-synthetic penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems are observed. Determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of sensitization of the organism to this allergen.
