Description
Penicillin V (phenoxymethylpenicillin) belongs to the group of penicillins – a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Allergic reactions to penicillins develop due to the production of IgE to metabolites of the β-lactam ring. Clinical manifestations of allergic reactions to penicillin V (β-lactam antibiotics) vary greatly by type (systemic or local reactions), damage to body systems, and time of symptom appearance. Symptom severity also varies greatly among different patients: from mild skin rash to severe anaphylactic shock. With systemic administration of this drug, anaphylactic shock is also possible. Determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of organism sensitization to this allergen.
