Description
Penicillin V (phenoxymethylpenicillin) belongs to the penicillin group, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Allergic reactions to penicillins develop due to the production of IgE against metabolites of the β-lactam ring. Clinical manifestations of allergic reactions to penicillin V (β-lactam antibiotics) vary greatly by type (systemic or local reactions), the organ systems affected, and the time of symptom onset. Symptom severity also varies significantly among different patients, ranging from mild skin rash to severe anaphylactic shock. With systemic administration of this drug, anaphylactic shock is also possible. The detection of elevated levels of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen indicates the presence of sensitization to this allergen.
