Description
Amoxicillin belongs to the group of semi-synthetic penicillins – a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Allergic reactions to semi-synthetic penicillins develop due to the production of IgE to metabolites of the beta-lactam ring. Allergy to amoxicillin occurs quite frequently and manifests as diseases such as urticaria, atopic dermatitis, Quincke's edema, allergic rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis. Anaphylactic shock is also possible with systemic administration of this drug. Cross-allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems are very often observed with sensitization to amoxicillin. The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of sensitization of the organism to this allergen.
