Description
Amoxicillin belongs to the group of semisynthetic penicillins – a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. The allergic reaction proceeds according to the cytotoxic (cytolytic) type involving IgG class antibodies, which bind to cell membranes, leading to cell destruction. Allergy to amoxicillin can manifest as diseases such as atopic dermatitis, urticaria, Quincke's edema, allergic rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis. Very often, with sensitization to amoxicillin, cross-allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems are observed. Determination of specific immunoglobulin G is used for the diagnosis of delayed allergic reactions, as well as for monitoring conducted therapy.
