Description
Amoxicillin belongs to the group of semi-synthetic penicillins and is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Allergic reactions to semi-synthetic penicillins develop due to the production of IgE against metabolites of the beta-lactam ring. Allergy to amoxicillin is quite common and manifests as diseases such as urticaria, atopic dermatitis, Quincke's edema, allergic rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis. With systemic administration of this drug, anaphylactic shock is also possible. Very often, sensitization to amoxicillin is accompanied by cross-allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems. The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of organism sensitization to it.
