Description
Allergy to human insulin is observed significantly more frequently than to porcine and bovine insulin. Human insulin is less antigenic than bovine and porcine, but allergic reactions to human insulin occur more frequently than to bovine and porcine. Allergy usually manifests as mild local skin reactions in the form of redness at the injection site or the formation of a small papule, and systemic reactions in the form of urticaria. The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of sensitization of the organism to this allergen.
