Description
Spinach as an etiological factor for food allergy is classified as having a moderate degree of allergenic activity (without taking individual characteristics into account). The most common manifestations include diseases of the digestive system (allergic stomatitis, cheilitis, gastritis, colitis, gastroenteritis) and skin (atopic dermatitis, urticaria, angioedema), and, more rarely, of the respiratory organs (allergic rhinitis, asthma). Cross-allergy to the pollen of weeds (mugwort, orache, ragweed) is frequently observed. The determination of an elevated level of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen indicates an acute allergic reaction (immediate-type hypersensitivity).
