Description
IgE-mediated allergy to coconuts is considered a rare type of food allergy. Manifestations such as skin diseases (atopic dermatitis, urticaria, Quincke's edema) are most common, while respiratory organs (allergic rhinitis, asthma) and digestive system (allergic stomatitis, cheilitis, gastritis, colitis, gastroenteritis) disorders occur less frequently. The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates an acute allergic reaction (immediate-type hypersensitivity).
