Description
IgE-dependent allergy to mustard is considered a rare type of food allergy. Mustard allergy usually begins in early childhood, although severe allergic reactions are mainly characteristic of adults. Often, a cross-allergic reaction is observed to broccoli, turnip, cabbage, cauliflower, rutabaga, rapeseed, nuts, legumes and weed pollen (mugwort, goosefoot, ragweed). The most common manifestations are diseases of the digestive system (allergic stomatitis, cheilitis, gastritis, colitis, gastroenteritis), skin (atopic dermatitis, urticaria, Quincke's edema), and rarely - respiratory organs (allergic rhinitis, asthma). The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates an acute allergic reaction (immediate-type hypersensitivity).
