Description
Ficus sap contains about 11 substances that are quite strong allergens; therefore, people with sensitization to these allergens are not recommended to grow this plant at home, let alone touch it. Allergy to ficus can manifest as contact dermatitis, respiratory allergoses, and sometimes systemic reactions (Quincke's edema, anaphylactic shock) may develop. The determination of specific immunoglobulin E to this allergen in increased amounts indicates the presence of sensitization of the organism to this allergen.
