Description
A comprehensive test allowing determination of the level of androgens and their metabolites in 24-hour urine. Androgens are steroid sex hormones produced by the sex glands (gonads): testes in men and ovaries in women. In both sexes, androgen synthesis can occur in the cells of the reticular zone of the adrenal cortex. They are responsible for the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and virilization in case of their excess in women or disturbances in their conversion to estrogens. Laboratory parameters determined: dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), androstenedione, testosterone, androsterone, epiandrosterone, etiocholanolone, epitestosterone, pregnantriol, as well as ratios: androsterone/etiocholanolone and testosterone/epitestosterone.
The test is not intended for patients under 16 years of age! When registering orders for steroid hormone testing in women, it is mandatory to indicate the presence/absence of pregnancy.
