Antinuclear Factor on HEp-2 Cells, IgG

Description

This is a group of specific autoantibodies reacting with various components of the cell nucleus. Determination of antibodies to nuclear antigens in blood serum is used to detect connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic collagenoses, polyarteritis nodosa, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, SLE-like form of rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren's disease. Furthermore, antinuclear factor can be detected in liver diseases (chronic active hepatitis, liver cirrhosis), infectious mononucleosis, acute and chronic leukemias, acquired hemolytic anemia, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, malaria, leprosy, chronic renal failure, thrombocytopenias, myasthenia gravis, and thymomas. This test is most informative for the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus, since in this disease, antinuclear antibodies are detected in the blood serum of 95% of patients within 3 months of its onset. In 10% of cases, antinuclear factor can be detected in healthy people, but in a low titer (no more than 1:50).
