Antibodies to adenovirus (Adenoviridae, IgM)

Description

Clinical manifestations of adenoviral diseases are highly variable, due to the ability of adenoviruses to affect the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract (pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs), intestine, urinary bladder, conjunctiva, as well as lymphoid tissue and cells of the nervous system. It should be noted that clinical manifestations may differ across age groups. The most severe complication is viral meningitis (inflammation of the meninges). Adenoviral infection can occur in manifest, subclinical, and latent forms. The disease occurs in all age groups, but most often affects infants and young children. Detection of IgM class antibodies to adenovirus is a valuable addition to direct virus detection methods for the diagnosis of respiratory tract infections, conjunctivitis, keratitis, meningitis, and gastroenteritis, increasing diagnostic reliability.
