Description
Detection of total antibodies is the most sensitive and specific method for the diagnosis of syphilis. Determination of class G immunoglobulins in the blood together with IgM is used for screening examinations and allows detecting the disease occurring in any form. The method is somewhat less sensitive in neurosyphilis and its latent forms. Antibodies in diagnostic titers are detected in the blood from the second week of the disease. During treatment, the antibody titer decreases somewhat but may remain at a sufficiently high level lifelong.
