Description
Detection of specific antibodies is the most sensitive and specific method for diagnosing syphilis. Determination of class G immunoglobulins in blood is used in conjunction with IgM determination. These antibodies appear in the blood in diagnostic titers during the acute period of the disease. During treatment, the antibody titer decreases somewhat, but may remain at a sufficiently high level for many years after the disease.
