Brucella antibodies (Brucella, IgA)

Description

Brucellosis (Maltese fever, Mediterranean fever, Gibraltar fever, Cyprus fever, undulant fever, typhomalarial fever, Bang's disease) is an infectious disease from the group of bacterial zoonoses, caused by microorganisms of the genus Brucella. The species pathogenic to humans are B. melitensis, Br. abortus, and Br. suis. Human infection occurs predominantly via the alimentary route, less frequently by contact or aerogenic routes. It is a systemic infectious-allergic disease with a tendency toward a chronic relapsing course, with predominant involvement of the musculoskeletal, nervous, and genitourinary systems. Depending on the clinical picture, acute, subacute, chronic, and residual forms of brucellosis are distinguished. Currently, the most sensitive method is enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), which is recommended as a rapid method for mass screening.
