Description
The appearance of anti-HBe antibodies usually indicates intensive elimination of the hepatitis B virus from the body. These antibodies appear during the acute period and persist for up to 5 years after the infection. In chronic persistent hepatitis, anti-HBe is detected in the patient's blood together with HBsAg. Seroconversion, i.e. the transition from HBeAg to anti-HBe in chronic active hepatitis, is usually prognostically favorable.
