Description
Giardiasis is a common protozoal (caused by protozoa) disease. The pathogen is transmitted, most often, through water. In the body, Giardia inhabit the small intestine and can infect the biliary tract. The immune response to infection is quite pronounced; antibodies to the pathogen appear in the blood 10-14 days after infection and persist for 2-6 months after treatment.
