Mycoplasma hominis, IgA

Description

A positive result of the test for IgA class antibodies may indicate the likelihood of a current infection. The production of these antibodies begins 7-14 days after the onset of the disease. Immunoglobulin A class antibodies provide humoral protection of the body's mucous membranes against the invasion of intracellular parasites, and since damage to the mucous membranes is characteristic of M. hominis, the use of tests to determine anti-IgA to M. hominis in laboratory practice together with the detection of anti-IgG can provide more effective serodiagnosis of the disease. However, the method is less important than PCR diagnostics, since due to the intracellular localization of M. hominis, the body's immune response against these microorganisms is often weakly expressed.
