Description
Antimitochondrial antibodies are produced against lipoproteins of the inner mitochondrial membrane and are the most sensitive and specific diagnostic laboratory test for primary biliary cirrhosis. In other autoimmune and chronic viral liver diseases, the level of these antibodies is rarely detected and in lower titers. The test is used for the diagnosis of primary biliary cirrhosis, assessment of the disease prognosis, and effectiveness of the therapy.
Within the framework of the study, IgG, IgA, and IgM class antibodies are determined.
