Opisthorchis, IgM

Description

Opisthorchiasis is a helminth infection caused by Opisthorchis felineus, a parasite from the class of liver flukes, also known as the Siberian or cat liver fluke. The disease is characterized by damage to the liver and gallbladder. Acute opisthorchiasis (early phase) is distinguished, usually lasting from a few days to 4–8 or more weeks, and is associated with the penetration of excysted parasite metacercariae into the hepatobiliary system and pancreas. The late phase or chronic opisthorchiasis lasts for many years. The course of the disease may be asymptomatic. The incubation period averages 2-4 weeks. Acute opisthorchiasis is characterized by fever, headaches and muscle pain, joint pain, skin rash, and enlarged lymph nodes. Subsequently, the infection takes a chronic course: aching pain in the right hypochondrium and abdomen is disturbing, chronic cholecystitis and chronic pancreatitis join. The study is intended to detect IgM immunoglobulins to Opisthorchis antigens in blood serum.
