Description
Antibodies to gastric parietal cells are detected in pernicious anemia, autoimmune gastritis and thyroiditis, Addison's disease, and myasthenia. The antibody titer correlates with the severity of gastric mucosal damage in gastritis. The test is used for the diagnosis of pernicious anemia, monitoring the course, and evaluating the effectiveness of therapy for autoimmune gastritis.
