Description
Determination of antibodies to sperm antigens in a woman's blood is important in the diagnosis of immune-mediated female infertility. Three types of sperm antibodies can be produced in the female body: sperm-agglutinating, sperm-immobilizing, and sperm-cytotoxic. Impairment of sperm motility often occurs when the latter encounter antibodies located in the mucus of the cervical canal. Sperm immobilization is also possible upon contact with the ovum if this interaction occurs in the presence of antibodies. The test is used for the diagnosis of infertility.
