Tissue transglutaminase belongs to the family of calcium-dependent acyltransferases that catalyze the formation of cross-links between proteins. Determination of antibodies to tissue transglutaminase in blood serum is a highly specific method for diagnosing gluten enteropathy (celiac disease).
