Description
A parasitic disease characterized, depending on the state of the immune system, by a variety of clinical manifestations and significant variability in the course: from asymptomatic carriage to severe, fatal forms of the disease. Toxoplasmosis belongs to the group of TORCH infections (abbreviated from Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes), considered potentially dangerous for the child's development.
The causative agent of the disease, Toxoplasma gondii, belongs to the protozoa Sporozoa, genus Toxoplasma. IgM appear in the blood during the first week of the disease, their titer increases within 2-3 weeks, then progressively decreases until complete disappearance after 2-3 months. Detection of these antibodies in the blood of newborns indicates a congenital infection.
