Antibodies to Cytomegalovirus, IgG (immunoblot)

Description

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) belongs to the herpesvirus family. CMV infection is one of the diseases characterized by long-term persistence of the virus in the body. Activation of the persisting virus can lead to the development of acute or chronic infection. Primary CMV infection poses the greatest risk for pregnant women, causing congenital CMV infection in the fetus. In immunosuppressed patients (organ recipients, patients with lymphoid neoplasms, HIV-infected individuals), CMV infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. The study is intended to confirm the presence of IgG antibodies to cytomegalovirus marker proteins by immunoblotting in individuals whose serum gives a positive or indeterminate reaction in ELISA. Establishing the stage of infection is extremely important for pregnant women, as it is of fundamental importance in choosing treatment tactics, the need for additional diagnostics of fetal development, and predicting the outcome of the disease.
