HIV 1, 2 Ag/Ab Combo (determination of antibodies to HIV types 1 and 2 and p24 antigen)

Description

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) attacks the immune system, causing the body to become highly susceptible to various infections, which, as they progress, lead to the death of the patient. The pathogen belongs to the family of RNA-containing retroviruses. Enzyme immunoassay (EIA) is the main, most widely used method for determining antibodies to HIV. If a positive result is obtained, the biomaterial is re-tested twice; if at least one positive result is obtained, diagnosis is carried out using the more specific immune blotting method. Modern 4th generation test systems (used in the laboratory) simultaneously detect antibodies and the p24 antigen of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which allows determining the presence of the pathogen in the body as early as 2-4 weeks after infection. According to international standards, to confirm or refute the fact of infection, the analysis must be taken twice with an interval of 3–6 months. In case of anonymous testing, providing passport data (full name, permanent residence address, citizenship) is not required.
