Description
During the first two weeks of the illness, IgM class antibodies appear in the blood serum of those infected with viral hepatitis C (and persist for about 2 months); during the early convalescence period, IgM and IgG class antibodies are detected in the blood, while during late convalescence, only IgG is detected. The determination of total antibodies to various antigens of the hepatitis C virus is the standard for diagnosing this disease and is used as a screening method.
