Description
Coxsackievirus is an RNA-containing virus belonging to the enterovirus family (intestinal viruses). Two groups of Coxsackieviruses are known — virus A and virus B, each containing serotypes that differ in antigenic properties. Clinical manifestations of Coxsackievirus are polymorphic. Depending on the features of the viral serological type and the predominant localization, several clinical forms of the disease are distinguished — flu-like form, enteroviral exanthema, herpangina, hemorrhagic conjunctivitis, and intestinal form. The virus mainly affects children aged 1 to 10 years, and complications, as a rule, develop in children under 2 years of age. Children's susceptibility to enteroviruses is high.
