Description
Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV) belongs to human herpesvirus type 3 (HHV-3) and is the causative agent of chickenpox and herpes zoster (shingles). Chickenpox develops as a result of primary infection, usually in childhood (more than 95% of all cases); subsequently, the virus persists in the ganglia and, upon reactivation, leads to the development of herpes zoster. The test is intended to detect IgA class antibodies to Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV). Detection of IgA antibodies is a confirmatory marker in cases of suspected reinfection.
