Description
Determination of antibody titer is used in the diagnosis of tetanus at the early stages of clinical symptoms manifestation of the disease, when it is still difficult to unequivocally diagnose (usually the first week of the disease), as well as to assess the strength of immunity in examined individuals and to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination with the anti-tetanus vaccine. The primary immune response is provided by IgM class antibodies, which appear on days 2-3 after infection; simultaneously, anti-IgG levels begin to rise on days 4-5. When identifying candidates for vaccination, the antibody titer is determined before vaccination; if it is low or antibodies are absent, this is a direct indication for vaccination, the effectiveness of which is judged by the increase in antibody titer in studies conducted after vaccination.
