Protein fractions in serum

Description

Study of the quantitative composition and ratio of various blood serum protein fractions. Total serum protein is represented by albumins and globulins, which are divided into four main fractions: alpha1-, alpha2-, beta- and gamma-globulins. Each fraction consists of various proteins that are similar in their molecular weight, but far from always in their function. Alpha1- and alpha2-globulins include the so-called acute phase proteins, which are markers of inflammatory processes in the body, as well as some specific transport proteins: haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin and carrier proteins of some hormones. Beta-globulins contain proteins involved in immune response reactions, as well as such important carrier proteins as transferrin and hemopexin. The gamma-globulin fraction is represented by "immunity proteins" - antibodies (IgA, IgG, IgE, IgM). In various pathological conditions, the ratio and quantity of proteins of certain fractions may change significantly, and in some cases, additional (pathological) protein fractions appear.
