Description
Protein is one of the main components of cerebrospinal fluid; more than 80% of it comes from blood plasma during its filtration in the choroid plexuses of the brain ventricles. Normally, total CSF protein consists of albumins and various globulin fractions. Assessment of protein content in cerebrospinal fluid allows drawing conclusions about the state of the blood-brain barrier, as well as the type and severity of the pathological process in the central nervous system. The study is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of inflammatory, oncological, and other specific diseases of the CNS.
