Description
A low-molecular-weight protein that is part of the surface antigens of cell nuclei. Its blood level mainly reflects the proliferation of lymphocytes, in which it is most abundantly represented. It is excreted via the kidneys (normally detected in urine in trace amounts). The serum beta-2-microglobulin test is specific for the diagnosis of lymphoid tumors.
Biomaterial obtained from patients with acute and chronic renal failure and undergoing hemodialysis treatment is not accepted.
