Description
The test allows for quantitative determination of the secretion level of a specific marker of bone resorption – deoxypyridinoline. Deoxypyridinoline is a substance that provides cross-linking between strands of collagen protein, which is one of the main structural components of bone tissue. Normally, processes of destruction of old and formation of new bone matrix constantly occur in bone tissue. When processes of destruction (resorption) of bone tissue prevail over its restoration, the content of specific resorption markers increases in the blood, including deoxypyridinoline, most of which is excreted from the body by the kidneys. In combination with other research methods, the analysis is used for the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of osteoporosis and other diseases associated with increased destruction of bone tissue.
