Description
Along with testosterone, it is the most important and most biologically active male sex hormone. It is formed from testosterone in peripheral tissues under the influence of the enzyme 5α-reductase. The hormone is of decisive importance in the development and differentiation of internal and external genital organs during embryogenesis. It stimulates the growth of the male reproductive system organs, the development of skeletal muscles, laryngeal cartilage, and epiphyses. Dihydrotestosterone stimulates hair growth in androgen-dependent areas of the body (face, limbs, chest, back).
The test is used for the diagnosis and monitoring of pathological conditions associated with increased and decreased synthesis of sex hormones in men and women.
* The test is intended for individuals over 1 year of age.
