Description
Histological examination is mandatory to confirm an oncological disease. The attending physician obtains biomaterial from the organ under investigation via biopsy and sends it to the laboratory, where paraffin blocks are prepared from the bioptate, then ultrathin sections are cut from them, mounted on microscope slides, and stained with special dyes. A pathologist examines the obtained biomaterial using a microscope, assessing the state of cellular structures, their interrelationship, the presence of background changes, etc. Histological examination allows verifying pathological changes, determining the form, stage of the disease, and the background against which it proceeds.
Additional histological staining is performed when it is necessary to obtain additional, auxiliary information about the molecular structure and properties of the sample under study, as well as in cases where primary staining did not allow for a full histological/immunohistochemical examination.
