Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic and psychotropic drug, the concentration of which in the blood requires regular monitoring and maintenance within the therapeutic dose range in order to achieve a therapeutic effect and prevent side effects. Determination of carbamazepine and its main metabolite (carbamazepine 10, 11-epoxide) by high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometric detection (HPLC-MS) provides additional necessary information for therapeutic drug monitoring.
