Description
Free estriol is a steroid hormone – an estrogen of great importance for the normal course of pregnancy. Estriol is synthesized in the placenta from precursor substances produced by the fetal liver and adrenal glands. The hormone level in the blood increases throughout pregnancy, reaching a maximum by the 40th week. Monitoring of the hormone concentration is used for the diagnosis of fetoplacental insufficiency and fetal developmental pathology.
