Fibro/ActiTest

Description

Fibro/ActiTest
A calculation algorithm for assessing the stage of fibrosis and necroinflammatory activity in liver tissue. Fibro/ActiTest consists of six laboratory tests, the results of which are used to calculate two main indicators of liver tissue condition:
- fibrosis stage according to the METAVIR scale (FibroTest)
- degree of necroinflammatory activity (ActiTest)

Fibro/ActiTest is an alternative to liver biopsy and has several important advantages over it:
- the study evaluates the condition of the entire liver tissue, and not just the part obtained during biopsy
- allows diagnosing fibrosis at an early stage
- there is no painful and, in some cases, dangerous procedure for obtaining a bioptate
- determination of the degree of fibrosis and histological activity of the necroinflammatory process is possible with contraindications to biopsy (for example, with hypercoagulation)

The calculation algorithm was developed in France and confirmed in more than 40 independent international studies on thousands of patients. The method is approved by the healthcare systems of France, the USA, Canada, the UK, and other countries.
The efficacy of using Fibro/ActiTest as an alternative to liver biopsy has been proven in the overwhelming majority of clinical situations. It allows obtaining the most important information about the condition of liver tissue in lesions caused by viral or toxic factors, as well as diseases leading to liver tissue damage (diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, overweight).

Indications for use:
- chronic hepatitis B
- chronic hepatitis C
- steatosis
- alcoholic steatohepatitis
- overweight
- diabetes mellitus
- hypertensive disease
- hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia

The analysis has certain limitations (therefore, it is recommended to consult a doctor before undergoing the examination):
1. The test is not performed in patients under 18 years of age and patients with a transplanted liver
2. The results of the study can be influenced by the following factors (the study has limited application or is not used in their presence):
- presence of acute hepatitis caused by virus type A, B or Epstein-Barr
- presence of acute hepatitis of autoimmune nature or drug-induced hepatitis
- Gilbert's syndrome with high hyperbilirubinemia
- taking protease inhibitors (Indinavir, Atazanavir, Ritonavir)
- taking azathioprine and ribavirin
- presence of chronic hemolysis (for example, in patients with a prosthetic heart valve)
- cholelithiasis (gallstone disease) with acute cholestasis
- hepatic necrosis
- presence of an acute infectious disease of the respiratory system or kidneys
- in the presence of lipemia and/or hemolysis in the obtained serum (the study is not performed)
3. The results of the study should be interpreted with caution if there is an isolated increase/decrease in one of the laboratory indicators (not correlating with the clinical situation), namely:
- haptoglobin below 0.12 g/l or above 3.2 g/l
- transaminases above 622 IU/l
- bilirubin above 30 µmol/l
- GGT below 50 IU/l
- alpha-2 macroglobulin above 5.0 g/l.
