Description
Flecainide is a membrane-stabilizing antiarrhythmic drug. According to the Vaughan-Williams antiarrhythmic drug classification, it belongs to class 1C. Flecainide blocks slow sodium channels of cell membranes, thereby slowing down the conduction of the electrical impulse through the heart. The drug has a pronounced effect on the conduction system of the heart, especially on the bundle of His and Purkinje fibers. Its action is particularly pronounced in cases of rapid abnormal heartbeat (tachyarrhythmia). Flecainide is used to treat rhythm disturbances not only in adults but also in children.
