Description
Fluoxetine is an antidepressant from the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, effective for the treatment of depression, bulimia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and panic attacks.
This test is used for: monitoring the drug concentration in the blood; optimizing treatment control through dose adjustment; assessing drug interactions; diagnosing overdose; assessing potential drug toxicity; identifying violations of the drug administration regimen. This test is ordered: when prescribing fluoxetine alone or in combination with other drugs (including those related to concomitant diseases and conditions); when monitoring patients with impaired liver and kidney function, cardiovascular diseases, pregnant women, and the elderly taking fluoxetine (in these situations, the drug is contraindicated, except when the benefit of taking it outweighs the potential risk); when the prescribed drug is insufficiently effective and when deciding on dose adjustment; when non-compliance with the drug regimen is suspected; when fluoxetine overdose is suspected (nausea, vomiting, agitation, restlessness, hypomania, convulsions, grand mal seizures).
