Description
The study involves the identification of the allelic polymorphism 283 A>G (BsmI) of the VDR gene. The name VDR is an abbreviation for Vitamin D Receptor. The protein produced by this gene belongs to the family of nuclear receptors, activating other genes involved in calcium metabolism. Vitamin D, formed in the skin under the influence of sunlight or entering the body with food or as a pharmaceutical form, binds to the VDR protein. This complex is transported into cell nuclei and activates genes that maintain blood calcium levels at the required level. The VDR gene contains a number of other functional polymorphisms (ApaI, TaqI, FokI, poly-A), which also contribute significantly to genetic predisposition to calcium metabolism disorders. Allelic variants in the studied region of the gene: A (B or BsmI-) and G (b or BsmI+). In European populations, both alleles occur with approximately equal frequency.
