Description
"Birdshot" chorioretinopathy is a rare (0.5-1.5 % of all uveitis cases) chronic bilateral posterior uveitis, characterized upon ophthalmoscopy by lesions of the choroid and retina with the appearance of multiple yellow spots resembling "birdshot". Clinically, in the early stages, the disease manifests as floaters, blurred vision, and progressive decrease in visual acuity; in later stages – as photopsia, nyctalopia, and loss of color vision. The development of the disease is strongly associated with carriage of the HLA-A29 genotype. The prevalence of HLA-A29 among patients with "birdshot" chorioretinopathy is 96-99 %.
