Description
Cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (or cryopyrinopathies) are hereditary monogenic autoinflammatory syndromes characterized by a chronic relapsing course, fever, urticaria-like skin rashes, ophthalmological pathology (conjunctivitis, uveitis), a wide spectrum of joint damage (from arthralgia to persistent arthritis), involvement of the central and peripheral nervous system, and in some cases, the development of sensorineural hearing loss, amyloidosis, and renal failure. They are caused by aberrations in the NLRP3 gene, which encodes cryopyrin. They are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner.
