Description
Fuchs hereditary endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a disease characterized by degenerative lesions of the cornea and progressive bilateral vision loss. It most often manifests after the age of 40 and presents with the following symptoms: deterioration of vision in the morning hours with its recovery towards the evening, photophobia, lacrimation, foreign body sensation in the eye, and blepharospasm. The most common cause of FECD is considered to be the expansion of CTG repeats in the intron of the TCF4 gene, which is detected in 70-75% of patients.
