Histo-FISH analysis of BCL-6 gene rearrangements on paraffin sections

Description

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is the newest cytogenetic research method, during which the presence and localization of specific DNA sequences on chromosomes are detected. The BCL6 gene suppresses genes involved in B-cell activation and terminal differentiation of lymphocytes. In diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, rearrangements occur in this gene that completely block its function. As a result, lymphocytes form a clone of tumor cells. The study is important both for the diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and for the prognosis of the course of the disease.
